My October Playlist

Updated: Oct 30, 2022

My October 2022 playlist and why each song made the cut.

Throughout high school, I started to create and develop yearly playlists that I often listen to. When I listen to the playlists now, the songs make me feel and experience the emotions I was feeling when I made the playlist. Since then, I have continued making playlists that I listen to every day, and look forward to years from now when I go back and re-discover the songs that are important to me. Here is my October playlist, and why these 12 songs have influenced my month.

1&2. Maroon and Midnight Rain- by Taylor Swift

I am an avid Taylor Swift lover. My friends and I had a listening party last week when her new album, Midnights, was released. So far, these two songs are my favorites. Out of the rest of the album, these two songs' lyrics and messages are the most relatable to my feelings this month. Taylor is known for her incredible storytelling; this album is nothing short of her usual abilities.

3. Skinny Love- Bon Iver

I have a newfound love for Bon Iver. My younger sister, Elise, loves him; but I've never really understood why. A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty homesick and asked her to send me one of her favorite playlists. As I listened, I found this song stuck out to me. Driving with the windows down with cool weather and this song playing is simply perfection.

4. Cherry Wine (Live)- Hozier

Similar to Skinny Love, any and all Hozier music just puts me in the mood for fall. This version, especially since it is live, is just easy to listen to.

5. The Man in Me- Bob Dylan

I know there are extremely mixed opinions on Bob Dylan, however; this song is so good. I often say that I was born in the wrong generation, and this song further confirms that I am correct. I am very appreciative of simple music, and thats what this is. Just a man and his gutair. It's really magic.

6. Love Insurance- Gwen McRae

Love Insurance is the complete opposite of Bob Dylan's style music. I discovered this song on an old playlist I downloaded from someone online, and I fell in love with it. When I'm in a good mood, I turn this song on and I'm instantly in an even better one. In October, I had a lot of sad moments, but the happy ones were when I would listen to this song.

7. When I'm with You- Chris Stapleton

Chris Stapleton is who influenced me to give country music a chance. Honestly, until I heard this album (specifically this song) if anyone brought up country music it was an absolute no from me. I'm a sucker for a classic love song, and Chris Stapleton seems to be the Frank Sinatra of country music.

8. Satellite- Harry Styles

I can't do a playlist post and not put a Harry Styles song in it. I still listen to Harry's House almost daily, but this song has been my favorite since my first listen. I fell back in love with it after I watched him perform it live in September.

9. Green Eyes & Cry Cry Cry - Coldplay

Coldplay also gives me a sense of nostalgia. Every morning in high school, my mom would play Coldplay radio as we all got ready for the day. Now, I find myself constantly listening to Coldplay when I am thinking of home. Green Eyes and Cry Cry Cry are probably my two favorites right now, but honestly that will probably change tomorrow.

This past week, I heard this song in the gym and have been listening to it ever since. JT's vocals, the beat, I could go on and on about this song. My mom also used to play this song on repeat when I was pretty little, and I remember jamming out with her on the way to volleyball practice.

11. Freakin' Out on the Interstate- Briston Maroney

I discovered this song back my sophomore year of high school. Early 2017 was YouTube creator and influence Emma Chamberlain's prime, and I remember she mentioned this song in one of her playlist videos. Since then, I find myself re-discovering this song once every few months.

My October playlist is full of songs that remind me of certain places or people in my life that I needed. This month has been pretty challenging for me, but listening to music always makes me feel like everything will be okay. If you want to check it out on Apple Music you can listen here.
