Makeup Recommendations from a Not-So Girly, Girly Girl

Updated: Oct 27, 2022

I grew up playing about ten hours of volleyball a week. That didn’t leave much time for me to play with makeup or find my own sense of style. When I decided to go to OU and stop playing volleyball, I realized I had no idea how to wear any makeup besides mascara. Since then, I have had fun testing different makeup products to find what works for me every day. Here are my four essential makeup products from your not-so-girly-girly girl.

This product is phenomenal. I don’t love wearing heavy foundation everyday, but I need something that evens out my skin tone. This product is light in coverage but smooths out all of the little imperfections in my skin. When I wear it consistently, strangers will come up and compliment my skin and ask what I am wearing. If you are looking for a base product that gives you a natural glow, I highly recommend checking the Flawless Filter out.

The idea of contouring my face terrified me for a long time. To all my round-face girlies out there, I see you and I hear you. Before I had a formal event, I made my way to Ulta to find something to elevate my look from natural to boujee. I stumbled on this product and it's safe to say I will be re-purchasing. For someone who was scared to try a contour stick in the past, it is extremely easy to use and blend. To anyone that is like me and terrified of looking like a clown with contour, this product is fool-proof.

For as much as I was terrified of contour, I am probably too much of an advocate for blush. However, I truly believe that the more blush the better. My favorite cream blush is the Benefit LoveTint. The consistency of the product is almost water-like, so it is extremely easy to blend and control how much of it is on your skin. Also… the color!!!! There are a few different shades in this product but I find that this one stays on the longest. Paired with the Flawless Filter and the NYX Wonder Stick, this blush is perfect to finish your base.

Once again, lip liner products were something I ran away from until my makeup look needed a little elevation. Lip products are really scary to search through to find something that works for you. The options seem limitless and it almost seems like it's too much to deal with. However, this lipliner honestly changed my life. It is extremely easy to use and when paired with a clear gloss (my favorite is Jason Wu Plumping Gloss) creates the perfect long-lasting lip combo.
